Welcome to the world of VOLLEYBALL,

SEKAP TAKRAW and PHILATELY !!!

RECENT NEWS:

2002 04 27
  • A new MIHON (= Specimen) version of postal stationery JAPAN 037 was reported by Luciano Calenda. You find it under "JAPAN".
  • The sensation of the last time is a find by Piet van den Berg. He found four souvenir sheets from LIBYA from the year 1979 which clearly show Volleyball on the sheet margin. You find them under "LIBYA". Untill I get the scans from Piet there is just a general image of the four sheetlets to be seen. It might be possible that they also exist in an imperforate version.
  • Regarding the information of April 20, I had a couple of responses. They all said that it looked like water volleyball, although it is strange as this is not an Olympic sport. But there were also many stamps issued for Olympic Games from different countries which show sport that are not Olympic. So I will inlcude this cachet cancel in our listing. Look for it under "SINGAPORE".

I could include three nice items into my collection: A full sheetlet of the following stamps: GUATEMALA 001b and 002, SOVIET UNION 001, AUSTRALIA 002b.

Dear friends ! Piet van den Berg sent me a scan of the cover pictured here. On the cachet cancel we can see ... yes, what is it we can see ? Is it waterpolo, or is it water volleyball, or is it ??? Please let me know your opinion, just click here:

Piet also informs about a new version of stamp BULGARIA 004. It also exists imperforate on the top side and gets 004c, although so far we have no image of it (it is listed in the new MICHEL catalogue).

Due to the amount of new information and new cancels from JAPAN I had to re-number the whole listing of JAPANESE commemorative cancels.

2002 04 18
  • There were a lot of mistakes in the listing of the postal stationery from JAPAN. I hope that I have fixed everything.
  • I could add the "A" - version of souvenir sheet 014 from the REPUBLIC OF CHINA. You can see it under "CHINA PR". It has got number 014a.
  • Thanks to Mauro Gilardi I also could change some black and white images of JAPANese cancels with colour images.

I found a new postal stationery card from the former SOVIET UNION. Although the Volleyball symbol on the sign on the beach is hard to see, I am 100 % sure that it is Volleyball. Check it out under postal stationeries of  "SOVIET UNION". It gets number 018.

  • During a couple of days I had no time to add new items to this page. Today I have added about 30 colour images of already listed commemorative cancels from JAPAN.
  • I was busy working on my other homepage. If you are interested take a look at www.nicaraguanet.org - although it is just a start.

Dear friends !
There is a new collector of Volleyball Philately who wrote to me recently. His name is Alain Dalmasso, he is from France. He says that he is 32 years old and that he has been collecting Volleyball items since 1990.
In the name of the whole group of Volleyball collectors I would like to welcome him. His eMail address is: dalmasso.alain@wanadoo.fr .

  • There is a new Maximum card from BULGARIA which was sent in by Piet van den Berg. You can see it under NEW ISSUES "BEFORE 1990".
  • Thanks to Mauro Gilardi I could add many colour scan of commemorative cancels from JAPAN.
An ABSOLUTELY INTERESTING item was found by Mauro Gilardi. It is a letter from the "International Sports Games of Emigrated Ucranian People" which were held on June 26th and 27th, 1948 in Mittenwald, Germany. One of the sports of these games was "Netzball", a rather uncommon German translation of the word "Volleyball" (it actually means "Netball" which is a sport similar to Basketball). It bears a commemorative cachet cancel as well as a Cinderella stamp. If anyone has got more information about this item please let me know, clicking on the Volleyball symbol here:

  • Regarding stamp KENYA 002 I received an eMail from the MICHEL catalogue telling me that it is quiet probable that the date of issue was Aug 14, 1992 and not July 24, 1992. I shall list this stamp with that date.

  • Thanks to our friend Mauro we can add a new colour version of commemorative cancel JAPAN 004. This cancel exists in red and brown colour. It will get a new number (005). You find it under "JAPAN 1949 - 1959"
  • I was informed by Badminton-specialist Rex Hagget from England that there might exist a stamp issue from the Serbian Republic (Bosnia Herzegowina) for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. He told me that it is an issue of  two stamps within a pictogrammed border where Volleyball appears. It is NOT the souvenir sheet 002 which is already in the catalogue. Does anyone have more information ?
  • Stamp KENYA 002 was issued on July 24, 1992, according to all mayor catalogues. Nevertheless, I have got two different FDCs as well as the information sheetlet from the Kenyan Postal Authorities where the date is Aug 14, 1992. That is why I shall list it with this date.

Bernard Bergeret sends us a souvenir sheet from FRANCE (issued to celebrate a stamp festival). It seems that the girl has played the ball like a volleyball. What do you think - should we include this sheetlet into our catalogue ? Please write me clicking here:
